Is It Time To Reassess Your Skin Care?
Most people find a skin care routine they like and stick with it. But your skin changes constantly, and what worked for you at 30 may not be doing much for you at 40. Hormones shift, seasons change, stress levels fluctuate and your skin responds to all of it. If you’ve been using the same products for a while and aren’t seeing the results you’d expect, it might be time to take a closer look at what your skin actually needs right now.At Cayce Medical Spa in Columbia, MO, we offer complimentary skin care consultations designed to help patients across Mid-Missouri get a clear, honest picture of their skin health and build a treatment plan that works.
Signs Your Skin Care Routine Isn’t Working
Before we talk about what a consultation looks like, it helps to know what to watch for. A lot of people assume that skin care just takes time, and while patience is important, there’s a difference between waiting for results and waiting for something that isn’t going to come.
Here are the clearest signs that your current skin care routine may need a professional reassessment:
- Persistent breakouts: If you’re still breaking out regularly despite a consistent routine, your products may not be targeting the right concerns or could actually be clogging your pores without you realizing it.
- Chronic dryness: Skin that stays dry, flaky or tight regardless of how much moisturizer you apply is often a sign that your skin barrier is compromised or that your current products aren’t the right fit for your skin type.
- Dullness: Healthy skin has a natural radiance to it. If your complexion looks flat, tired or uneven in skin tone despite regular care, your routine may be missing key ingredients or treatments that promote cell turnover.
- Irritation or redness: Some redness after introducing a new product is normal, but ongoing irritation is a warning sign. It may mean that one or more of your products contain ingredients your skin doesn’t tolerate well.
- No visible improvement after 6 to 8 weeks: Most skin treatment products need time to show results, but if you’ve been consistent for six to eight weeks and see no change at all, that’s a meaningful signal that something in your routine needs to shift.
- Increased sensitivity: If your skin has become more reactive over time, stinging or flushing more easily than it used to, your routine may be over-exfoliating or disrupting your skin’s natural moisture barrier.
Any one of these signs is a good reason to schedule a consultation. Two or more is a strong indicator that your skin care routine needs a real reset.
Why a Consultation at a Medical Spa Is Different
A medical spa is different than a day spa or relaxation spa. Medical spas offer more advanced treatments and recommended skin care products that must be overseen by a Physician Medical Director. Due to the clinical nature of these treatments and services, our licensed Estheticians take the time to fully explain the risks and rewards of treatments that would address your individual skin concerns. You will walk away from the consultation with a treatment plan that includes at-home products and in-office services tailored to your specific needs.
You won’t leave with a bag of generic products and a brochure. You’ll leave with a personalized treatment plan that combines in-office services and at-home skin care products selected specifically for your skin type, your concerns and your comfort level with more aggressive treatments.
You may not realize it but consultations are not just for new clients. We highly recommend getting a complimentary consultation once a year, just like an annual skin cancer screening, for optimal skin health. We like our clients to see the results of the treatment plan they have and reassess their skin to see if there are any skin changes that warrant a change in your treatment plan.
What To Expect At Your Consultation?
Your consultation will take about 45 minutes. It will be a one-on-one complimentary appointment with a Licensed Esthetician.
We will ask you about your current skin care routine and any skin concerns or ailments that you would like to address. During this time, we will assess underlying skin damage and your skin health. This includes analyzing wrinkles, discoloration, UV spots, pores, and unevenness of your skin tone to help identify areas of concern, which is used to design a treatment plan for in-office and at-home use.
Based on everything we learn during your consultation, your Esthetician will explain the in-office services and skin treatment products that are the best fit for your skin. Recommendations are always tailored to your goals and your comfort level.ess with which you would be comfortable.
