Acne and Scarring

Treatments for Acne & Scars

Our treatment protocols for acne and scarring are customized to the type of acne or scarring present, the amount of scarring, and the patient’s treatment goals. First and foremost, we ensure that the patient’s acne is under control to prevent future scarring which can be achieved by a Dermatology Clinic visit next door. We offer treatments for all types of scarring, usually utilizing a combination of procedures and various medical spa treatment options such as chemical peels, microderms, and extractions to help with ongoing acne. Depending upon severity and type of scar, the following procedures are recommended:

MicroNeedling by SkinPen

The SkinPen is the first microneedling device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars. This treatment effectively reduces acne scars, stretch marks, traumatic scars, fine lines and wrinkles, while giving patients an overall appearance of beautiful, glowing skin.

Microneedling causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissues, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

We offer a Platelet-rich Plasma therapy (PRP) coupled with microneedling to take your results to the next level. This technology allows us to harvest your own platelet-rich plasma from your body and use it to reduce your downtime and speed up visible results by up to 6 weeks sooner than using microneedling alone.

Chemical Peels

We offer a variety of peels to help with the treatment and prevention of acne breakouts. These peels include SkinCeuticals Micro-peels and Glytone Peels. Each peel treats specific skin issues and your treatment will be customized to your skin type. Chemical peels are also offered as one of our spa services.

Cross Procedure

The TCA Cross procedure treats pitted acne scars by using a small amount of TCA (trichloroacetic acid) in the scar to increase collagen levels and lift the scar to the surface of the skin.

Laser Rejuvenation

Our non-ablative lasers can result in gradual improvement in scars. Multiple sessions are needed at monthly intervals to help mild/moderate scarring, pore size and skin tone. This is a more gentle option to get the luxurious skin you desire.

Skin Resurfacing

Subcision

After thorough numbing of the skin, the physician can free up sunken acne scars with a fine, sterile needle. This procedure often results in the greatest improvement for depressed ‘rolling’ scars, with rapid healing and improvement in the appearance of the scars after only a few weeks. Multiple sessions may be needed. Treating acne scars is a long term process and there are no quick fixes. Our realistic goal is for scar improvement not elimination.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is a fractional device with programmable penetration depth and energy delivery for treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and general skin tone. The 24 coated pins penetrate into the subdermal tissue, coagulating the fat and contracting connective tissue. Simultaneously, directional RF energy generates bulk sub-necrotic heating in the dermis.
