Treating Acne & Acne Scars
Our treatment protocols are customized for each individual patient based on the type of acne or scarring present. Treatments are administered by our licensed dermatologists, nurses, and estheticians at our practice in Columbia, MO. First and foremost, we must ensure that the patient’s acne is under control in order to prevent future scarring. This can be achieved by a visit to our Dermatology Clinic next door. Once the active acne is under control, we then focus on treating scars. We offer treatments for all types of scarring, often utilizing a combination of several different procedures.
Depending upon the severity and type of scar scarring, the following procedures are recommended:
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles. This procedure causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process while minimizing cellular damage. The result is the effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.
SkinPen is the only FDA approved, medical-grade microneedling device. Designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and scars, SkinPen is one of the leading cosmetic procedures and is often recommended at Cayce Medical Spa.
Additionally, we offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy coupled with microneedling to take your results to the next level. This therapy involves harvesting platelet-rich plasma from your body. The plasma is then massaged into your skin after your microneedling treatment. Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy is proven to reduce downtime and speed visible results by up to 6 weeks sooner than microneedling alone.
A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers, revealing smoother, more even-toned skin.
At Cayce Med Spa, we offer a variety of peels to help with the treatment and prevention of acne breakouts and scarring. These peels include SkinCeuticals Micro-peels and Glytone Peels. Each peel treats specific skin issues, and your treatment will be customized to your skin type. Chemical peels are also offered as one of our spa services.
TCA CROSS Procedure
TCA Cross is designed to treat pitted acne scars by applying a small amount of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) onto the scars to increase collagen levels and lift the scar to the surface of the skin.
Non-Ablative Laser Rejuvenation
Our non-ablative lasers work by heating up the targeted tissue, thus stimulating your body’s collagen production to treat unwanted skin imperfections such as fine lines, wrinkles, scars. Multiple sessions at monthly intervals are often required to effectively treat scarring, pore size, skin tone, and other imperfections. This is a more gentle option to get the luxurious, even-toned skin you desire.
Subcision is a minor surgical procedure in which a fine, sterile needle is inserted into the skin around the scar at different angles to cut through and break up the underlying scar tissue. This procedure often results in the greatest improvement for depressed, ‘rolling’ scars, with rapid healing and improvement in the appearance of the scars after only a few weeks.
Morpheus8 is a fractional device that combines microneedling with radio-frequency technology to stimulate collagen production and promote skin resurfacing. The 24 coated pins penetrate the subdermal layer breaking up the connective tissue while simultaneously delivering radio-frequency (RF) energy into the skin. This combination causes exfoliation and collagen remodeling, resulting in improved texture, skin tone, and tightness. Morpheus 8 is an effective procedure for the treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and more.
Breathe away pain and anxiety with Pro-Nox™
We are pleased to offer this proven relief option for our patients. See for yourself! Ask how Pro-Nox™ can be combined with your upcoming procedure. A safe and comfortable choice to relieve worry and discomfort during in-office procedures.
The Pro-Nox™ Nitrous Oxide Delivery System empowers you to safely control your pain relief during in-office procedures. The fixed mixture of 50% Nitrous Oxide (N2O) and 50% Oxygen (O2) uses a specially designed on-demand valve that only delivers the medical gases when you inhale. You manage when to use it and for how long while still being able to recognize and respond on your own terms. This diminished sensation to pain without loss of consciousness is also known as an analgesia.
The effects are typically felt within just a few breaths through a mouthpiece or mask offering immediate relief of pain and anxiety. No needles or pills. When the pain subsides, take a couple of normal breaths without the mouthpiece or mask and the N2O is expelled from your body quickly, within 10 to 15 minutes.
